Zambia Travel Advice

Climate & Weather

Zambia has a tropical climate, defined by three distinct seasons. The cool, dry season, between May and August, has average temperatures of 23°C. Meanwhile, the hot, dry season, between September and October, averages around 34°C. The rainy season is warm, with tropical storms, between December and April.

The southern regions are the driest and hottest areas. This is where popular destinations, like Victoria Falls and Luangwa, are located.

Best Time To Visit

The best time to visit Zambia depends on what you are looking for! July to October is considered the peak wildlife viewing season. Dry season means wildlife can be easily spotted gathering around watering holes.

If you want to see Victoria Falls with maximum spray, February to June is a great time to visit. Meanwhile, August to December is the best time to visit Victoria Falls if you want to swim.

Customs & Culture

Zambian culture is shaped by over 70 different tribes, with traditional customs often merging with modern life. Daily life is rooted in community and genuine connections, so you can expect warm hospitality on Zambia trips. You will hear streets come to life with traditional music and ngoma (drumming). Zambia has 20 festivals annually, including celebrating the end of the rainy season with dancing and music.

It is advised to dress modestly when visiting local villages and to ask before taking photos of local people. Your group leader will be able to advise you on cultural customs on our Zambia tours.
