Best Time to Visit

The best time to visit on our Nepal tours comes down to preference. Autumn and spring are the most popular times of year for treks and mountain climbing, thanks to the warm and dry temperatures. This is also a fantastic time of year to spot Nepal’s wildlife at the national parks.

Winter and summer are some of the quietest times of year to travel to Nepal, and may be desirable for travellers on a budget. For a second opinion, chat to one of our friendly travel experts today.

Nepalese Culture

Customs & Culture

Nepal is a relaxed and welcoming country, home to a diverse variety of local cultures and traditions. Some cultural customs include taking shoes off at temples, dressing modestly at religious sites, avoiding public displays of affection and using your right hand where possible for eating and accepting gifts.

On our Nepal trips, you will have the chance to visit traditional teahouses and explore the local markets. Your group leader on our Nepal trips is also there to advise you of any cultural customs.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everest Base Camp is a challenging yet achievable trek, requiring a good level of preparation and physical fitness. Most importantly, ensure that you have the right gear, stay hydrated and do your research beforehand. All trekkers must be accompanied by a professional guide, which is included in group tours for Everest Base Camp, alongside other unbeatable perks.

Nepali and Maithili are the most widely spoken languages in Nepal. Some English is also spoken at popular tourist destinations.

We recommend bringing both cash and card. Nepalese Rupee is a closed currency, which means that it can only be obtained within the country. We encourage you to bring US dollars or Pound sterling notes for your trip to exchange when you arrive. On our Nepal tours, your group leader will inform you of where you can find the nearest ATMs.

Appropriate trekking gear and clothing are essential. Sunscreen and lip balm are recommended to protect your skin from the harsh altitudes. A reusable filtered water bottle, water purifying tablets, first-aid kit, biodegradable soap, travel towel and portable charger are also good-to-haves. If you are confirmed on one of our Nepal tours, you will receive pre-departure information, including a packing list, before your trip starts.

Layered clothing is strongly recommended for the high altitudes and cool temperatures, including a sweat-wicking base layer. Proper footwear is key (e.g. sturdy hiking boots and hiking socks). You will also need a raincoat and sunglasses for trekking days.

Gap 360 has partnered with Masta and Nomad Clinics, one of the UK’s largest networks of private travel clinics. Through Masta, you can arrange a Travel Telephone Consultation, an in-person Consultation, and book your vaccinations at your nearest clinic.

Flights to Nepal from the UK typically take 12 hours and include 1 stopover.

Miles Quinn

A fantastic experience that fully lived up to my hopes from the first day I read about the trip. It was incredible to live and teach in the Buddhist monastery. I really hope to return one day.

Benjamin Smith

The experience of going to Everest Base Camp was surreal. Our tour guide Bikram was exceptional with his support and knowledge throughout. Without him and our sherpa lama it would of made things 10x harder.

Jemima Bliss

Living in the monastery and really integrating myself amongst the nuns. I felt honoured to join in their prayer sessions. I have had a truly eye opening experience. Nepal has been the most culturally rich and most welcoming country…
