FCDO Travel Advice
The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) is official, foreign travel advice provided by the British government. You can check the latest visa requirements there, alongside both country-specific and general travel advice.
Passports
Your number one travel essential. Every country has its own passport rules, but we generally recommend that your passport is undamaged, has at least two blank pages and is valid for the entire time you’re abroad. Many destinations also require a minimum of six months’ validity beyond your return date, so it’s important to check the specific entry requirements before you travel.
Frequently Asked Questions About Visas
Sometimes. Check the entry requirements for every country you are visiting, including for flight connections.
It depends. Many countries may require you to get a visa in advance, whilst others may issue you a visa on arrival at the airport or land border. Some countries may only require your passport, whilst others may use alternative entry requirements.
We recommend checking the visa requirements at least 4 to 8 weeks before departure. Some visas can easily be applied for online, whilst others may take longer or require an embassy appointment in person. For more complex or less common visa types, processing times can be significantly longer, so it’s always best to research requirements as early as possible
